Shenanigans in a Magical Forest

YASORA: One thing, though ...
SATORI: Ah, hello, Yukari. I see you've gotten the hang of one of the few tricks that keep my Third Eye out.
YUKARI: It's a song from the Outside World, it's called "A Rainbow In Curved Air" by Terry Riley.
SATORI: It's rather nice, if a bit odd. But I think Yasora has a question.
UTSUHO: Umm ...
SATORI: Just a moment, Utsuho.
YASORA: Yeah ... Yakumo, I have to ask, since, well, all I have are suspicions. Did you really kill me?
YUKARI: No. I'd actually wanted you to survive.
SATORI: ... the music stopped ...
YUKARI: I saw that you had ... potential. I thought that you could've done with a much less violent lesson, but as far as I know, you were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
SATORI: ... she's telling the truth. She wanted to save you, but she was too busy fighting off the other Lunarians.
YASORA: Oh. Man, now I feel stupid.
UTSUHO: I ... kinda know what that's like.
YUKARI: Sorry I wasn't able to save you.
YASORA: Mm. Sorry for holding a grudge.
UTSUHO: Unyu ...

If a CSA02 is ever made, I think it'd be cool if Yasora and Utsuho were to fight together with the whole body-switching system, with the one without a body fighting through a spirit projection. Hundreds of years of experience never hurt anyone...oh wait.

Fun fact: Yasora taking the form of a glowy outer-body-thingy was in fact inspired by Nero's Devil Trigger in Devil May Cry 4. Probably something from the bits of Conversations Within Elsydeon comic that had Nei and Neifirst switching between each other, conversting, etc, too.

There is no evil in Muffinverse. This is a prime example to prove this fact.

Geizt

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Cuddlefish

Did I? It's totally a good thing.
Wait, maybe it's just that Gensokyo is fundamentally Not Evil.

Curses! I was really hoping Yukari would get her just deserts. Even if she didn't mean to kill Yasora, she is still dead along with countless others. I don't see how she can just get away scott free.

Also, it was kinda hard (nay, impossible) to root for the heroes in the final boss battle, when you know what she's been through and how justified she was.

Justified in trying to blow up the entirety of Gensokyo?

Moth 13

Blow up the world? I may have missed that. From what I'm reading, when Yasora comes back, her first priority is to find Yukari and give her a well deserved comeuppance. Yukari dodges the confrontation and sics Alice and Marisa on her like a couple of attack dogs, who proceed to declare that she'll have to fight through them to get to Yukari. Cue boss battle.

... hmm. Yasora has expressed her intentions to burninate the countryside regardless of Yukari's presence elsewhere, but looking over the pre-battle dialogue, I seem to have left out the part where Yasora specifically said this in this particular moment. My bad, fixing it now. (She did, however, try to kill Satori for just being kinda vaguely in her way, regardless.)

It's amazing how a single line can alter the entire tone of the story. Suddenly the story has changed from a bitter tragedy, to a standard save the day/beat the bad guy adventure.

Make no mistake, I am shivering with blind rage here, but maybe it's for the best. Since her story never gets a satisfying conclusion, making it so she kinda deserved it takes away any would-be expectations to a resolution. Future readers may even see it as a fitting compromise; she gets no revenge, but causes no destruction, and her existence even becomes somewhat less torturous out of the bargain.

Sorryyyyyyyyyyyy. X3

I just found something interesting and semi-related.

"humiliation by admitting wrongness or having been proved wrong after taking a strong position"
...Well.
