Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #69

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, Sakuya Izayoi, Rin Kaenbyou, Midori Inaba, Mika Sayomi Inaba, Utsuho Reiuzi, Aya Shameimaru

Story begins here!

Ladies and gentlechen, I give you ... a Lord of the Rings meme.

Sakuya evidently didn't ask her panel 2 question during Perfect Cherry Blossom. But whaddaya know: the next incident they resolved, chronicled in Undefined Fantastic Object, does indeed have someone directly involved as the very first boss. And she has the awesomest stage 1 boss theme ever. Of course, Kogasa (stage 2) was another Just Happened To Be In Reimu's Way character, but hey, can't win 'em all.1 That said, I wonder if I'm the first fan-story-creator in which (a) Reimu and Marisa's "beat up everything in front of her" attribute is present, and (b) someone manages to talk them out of beating her up.

Wow, haven't used Mika and Midori since ... well, since last Christmas! I figured now would be as good a time as any to use them, since they're going to Eientei and all.

  1. (Reimu (cat-eared), Marisa (cat-eared), and Sakuya fly through the sky.)
Reimu: (grinning widely with cute-fang) I think we must be nearing an area with some kind of boss at the end!
    Sakuya: Say, Marisa ...
  2. (The focus shifts to Sakuya and Marisa, with Reimu partway out of the panel.)
    Marisa: Sup?
Sakuya: How exactly do you two know where to look to resolve these Incidents? It's rare that your first four opponents have anything directly to do with it, and the first two *never* do.
  3. Marisa: (brightly cheerful) Oh, y'know, just followin' Reimu's vaunted intuition, ze.
Sakuya: Uh-huh. Methinks it needs to be replaced.
  4. (Orin comes into the panel behind them.)
Marisa: Fine. I promise ya the *very next incident* we solve, the first boss we fight will be directly involved.
    Orin: Hey, uh ...
  5. (The player-characters turn around to face Orin, who is annoyed and flanked by Mika and Midori.)
    Reimu: Aha! A cat!
    Marisa: This must be --
Orin: Yeah, yeah. Any of you seen Utsuho or Koishi around? Okuu was going to Eientei to help take some medicine to the Underground, but she disappeared.
Mika: (cheerful) And we got lost coming the other way!
  6. (Sakuya looks concerned, Reimu and Marisa look thoughtful. Mika sweatdrops as Midori chastizes her.)
    Sakuya: Koishi's gone as well?
Orin: Uh-huh. She was supposed to go look for Okuu, but she hasn't been heard from since.
    Reimu: Huh!?
    Marisa: Hmmmm ...
Midori: (aside) Don't talk like you're *proud* of it!
  7. (Closeup of Reimu and Marisa against a sketchy pink background.)
Reimu: Marisa, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Marisa: I think so, Reimu, but if the power is immaterial, why does it matter if it's missing?
  8. (Reimu and Marisa start cheerfully hurrying away.)
Reimu: There must be a connection! C'mon, you two rabbits, we're off to Eientei!
    Orin: Um ... right.
Sakuya: We'll find them for you, don't worry.
    Mika: Ah, yeah, great, thanks!
    Midori SFX: sigh...
  9. (Aya and Utsuho, standing by the mountain.)
Utsuho: Aya, what do your tengu eyes see?
Aya: They're taking the rabbits to Eientei!

1Note from future-Muffin: And anyway, the entire rest of the cast was directly involved with the plot, for one reason or other.

All Touhou characters are © Team Shanghai Alice and/or ZUN; create.swf is ⑨ KirbyM with help from Thefre. "Sakura petals" brush in main/4koma logo was made by Kisara Girl. "Falling leaves" brush in 60-Years logo came with Photoshop.

Tewi Inonymous

Utsuho stop trying to be ominous, you fail at it.
Also related *snicker* this should be amusing.

Oh since I'm first, I've been meaning to ask. Which is better waffles or muffins?

People in Gensokyo seem to be pretty trigger-happy in general. I mean, yeah, Rumia and Cirno just kind of seem to like harassing people. But somehow that doesn't seem to quite explain Mystia, and I'm not sure why Wriggle would even talk to any of the teams. As for PoFV... who knows.

I think I know where you got those lines in Panel 7!

What, Pinky and the Brain? thatisthejoke.jpg

Muffin, your Pinky and the Brain reference has permanently cemented your status as one of the most awesome people ever. I would award you an internet if I had any.

In other news, I see your Fridge Logic and raise you my own: A donut hole clearly is not a hole, is it?

The Ace Of Scarabs (Tv-Troper)

I sense a "Taking the Hobbits to Isengard" gag.

Dizzy H. Muffin

*looks at the link to "They're Taking The Hobbits To Isengard" in the commentary* Really?

For some reason, the fact that Utsuho has the Third Leg on her left arm rather than on her right arm like she does in SA is really irritating me. The rest of the comic is good, though.

Dizzy H. Muffin

Eh, can't really do anything about that — it's just how it works when you flip stuff in create.swf ...

Methinks a more refined way of speaking would suit Sakuya better. ...Then again, maybe I've been reading a little too much of U. N. Owen's stuff recently.

Kimiko- Oh, no, I meant that doujin "The Most Important Thing in The World".

Dizzy H. Muffin

Well I'm the one who edited that, so yeah |3

For such painful abuses of ancient memes, I must now hurt you.

En guarde.

Fac teur Rien

For such misutilisation of french language, E-Mouse, I will hurt you very badly.

En garde, mécréant!

Dizzy H. Muffin

For such skullduggery as mistaking "transcribe" for "translate," I will bap you unmercifully over the head with a pillow! :P

now look what you did, you made Kimiko Muffin get out the pillows :|

Facteur Rien

Hey. You should thanks the one who try hard to make you happy, Kimiko.
Even if, at the end, I completly failed.

For some reason, the last Penal reminds me on:

Utsuho: Aya, what do your Tengu eyes see?
Aya: They're over 9000!!!

Though, sounds more like some sort of greek invasion..

Come for the comic, stay for Create.swf Adventures, linger for the comments.
