Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #57

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Utsuho Reiuji, Kanako Yasaka, Rin Kaenbyou, Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame

Utsuho's power is seen as the "opposite" of Cirno's, but with about the same mental capacity; thus, she is seen as a ⑥. Originally I was going to title this comic "Soon I Will Be Invincible," but I wanted to put ⑥ in it.

The last two panels are basically the entire idea I had before I started making it. If you want Utsuho's characterization as a complete and utter ninny, though, I think panel 6 and 7 is where it's at.

The moral of the story is, don't boast that you're going to take over and/or destroy the world if your best friend has access to evil spirits and a geyser.

  1. (Closeup of Utsuho against a flaming background.)
  2. (She is standing above the core of the Subterranean Sun reactor, shouting dramatically to herself.)
Utsuho: With this new power, able to split the smallest parts of matter, I shall reign supreme above the surface world with hellfire and burnination!
  3. Utsuho: With the ability to throw around miniature suns, I shall bring the Hell of Blazing Fires to some imagined former state of glory!(footnote: isn't clear on what that actually means)
  4. (Closeup of Utsuho against a sketchy pink background. Inset is an image of Kanako handing Utsuho (without her wings, Third Leg (on her arm), or the red eye-thing) a black sun and going "Here, eat this." while Utsuho says "Kay.")
Utsuho: The wind goddess asked, "What would you do with the power of the sun?" Oho ho ho ho ho, I say to you, what *wouldn't* I do?
  5. (Back to the reactor.)
Utsuho: As for those who called me a mere Stage-1 boss (which I was), I'll show them! I'll show them all!
  6. (Closeup of Utsuho with a silly murderous grin against a flaming background.)
  7. Utsuho: Yeah ... uh ... everywhere in hell!
  8. (Orin pokes her head into the room behind her.)
Utsuho: I have a whole battle plan and everything! I'm really definitely gonna go and take over the world! And I'm gonna do it, um, tomorrow!
    Orin: (thought cloud) Uh-oh.
  9. Narration box: Three days later ...
(Marisa and Reimu enterbehind Utsuho, who is looking somewhat panicked.)
Utsuho: R-right! Um ... Really! Gonna attack soon! Any minute now!

Wouldn't Mokou and Cirno be more applicable as opposites, though? Unless Cirno's power isn't actually the ability to create ice/induce freezing conditions in specified locations relative to her, but rather some sort of inverse fusion/fission effect (which wouldn't make much sense, as, technically, fusion and fission are kind of the opposites of each other, at the very basic level).

Casting aside the matter of whether or not their powers are actually opposites, are Cirno and Utsuho the only characters to have 〇 numbers, or do all (named) characters with Cirno-level mental capacity have them at this point?

Dizzy H. Muffin

Just Cirno and Utsuho, as far as I know. And I didn't say it was a particularly logical practice ... ;)

Sai Youcho

This is one of the best ones so far. xD
Your comics are always awesome. =P

So, she's just standing there delaying her incident to delay her beat down from marisa and reimu?

So now Marisa isn't the black and white ordinary magician anymore... It would be blue and white! Also, why did Utsuho need for nuclear reactor if she could already become a ....uh, nuclear reactor?

Dizzy H. Muffin

@-Anonymous-: Yeah, all that take-over-the-world talk is all bark and no bite.

@eidrag: The way I interpreted it was, Utsuho was needed to create and maintain the reactor, not that she needed it herself per se.

If only she'd read the Evil Overlord List™ this all could have been avoided...

"22. No matter how tempted I am with the prospect of unlimited power, I will not consume any energy field bigger than my head."

Dizzy H. Muffin

But she didn't consume an energy field, she consumed a god. :3

Nor was she thinking of being an evil overlord at the time ...

"But she didn't consume an energy field, she consumed a god."

(Dryly) Ah, so this is some kind of a ⑥⑨ joke...

Dizzy H. Muffin

Um ... no? :O

Hunter 1

Is it just me, or do Okuu's lines in panel 4 sound like something Andrew Ryan said at some point in Bioshock?

Tewi Inonymous

More Nietzsche, than Andrew Ryan/Ayn Rand.

Dizzy H. Muffin

Actually, I was going by Utsuho's dialogue in Marisa-Nitori's scenario:

Each person who could would control fusion energy differently.
What would you do with it if you could steal it away?

The ultimate vehicle? The ultimate weapon?
Or, maybe, the ultimate magic?

Well, I want to revive the Hell of Blazing Fires.
I'll melt the Earth away!
