Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #49

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Yukari Yakumo, Alice Margatroid, Keine Kamishirasawa, Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, Alice Margatroid, Alice Margatroid, Alice Margatroid, Shanghai

A direct continuation of the latest Marisa Gear Solid, I guess. I should probably take a break from the "theme" comics for a bit ... well, except maybe the 4komas, but who knows when I'll find something that would fit in one.

Hey, Marisa's Undefined Fantastic Object design, complete with weird wand. The "flower ... thing" is a weird sunflower-ish-thing Marisa rode on in Story of Eastern Wonderland and as a boss in Lotus Land Story. I think the only way her UFO outfit could get any sillier is if that giant M was rainbow-colored and covered in glitter. Or maybe if it was some kind of magical girl outfit. (Sailor Mushroom, anyone?)

So yeah. I've had this punchline in my mind (by which I mean my list-of-ideas) for a while. No, it's not meant as a reference to Watchmen, by the way. However, both of them are secure enough in their relationship that they'll get over it quickly enough.

I added Shanghai on 31 May 2009, because I'd completely forgotten she existed. ... though it's the wrong Shanghai, this comic was originally made before KirbyM added Shanghai as a character ... still, whee, it was fun, kinda made me feel like how they made that one episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in which they went back in time to The Original Series and were inserted into scenes from "The Trouble with Tribbles" ...

  1. (EX-Keine and a blushing Alice (and Shanghai) confront Yukari in front of Alice's house.)
EX-Keine: ... and that's why actual time travel isn't allowed in Gensokyo.
SFX: came to fix the time paradox
    Yukari: (teary-eyed) I sorries!
    EX-Keine: (aside) You're lucky it's a full moon ...
  2. (Yukari retreats through a gap as Alice turns to Keine.)
Alice: Sorry to bother you with all this ...
EX-Keine: Mm, don't worry about it. I'll head back to guard the village now ...
    Gap SFX: *FOOP*
  3. (Alice stands blushing at her door.)
Alice: (thought cloud) Hmm ... now I'm suddenly in the mood to do something that'll make Marisa feel nice ... but I'm not sure what ...
  4. (Closeup of Alice grinning catlike against a sketchy pink background.)
Alice: (thought cloud) Wait, I've got it!
  5. (Marisa (in her UFO outfit) prepares to leave the Hakurei Shrine.)
Marisa: Well, that was a fun party! Next time I'll have to bring Alice! (Too bad she had to deal with that time paradox Yukari caused)
Reimu: All right ... I still say that outfit and wand are the most ridiculous things you've had since you rode that flower ... thing back when you worked for Mima ...
  6. (Marisa arrives at Alice's house; the front door is closed.)
Marisa: But now, home, and making up for lost time (by which I mean snuggles)!
  7. (The door is opened to reveal a bunch of Alices.)
    Door SFX: click
SFX: copies made by putting a disguise-spell on dolls
  8. (Marisa blanches and slams the door.)
  9. (Marisa flies off in a panic as Alice watches from the window.)
Alice: (thought cloud) Okay ... I know I shouldn't find this funny ... but I can't stop giggling.

All Touhou characters are © Team Shanghai Alice and/or ZUN; create.swf is ⑨ KirbyM with help from Thefre. "Sakura petals" brush in main/4koma logo was made by Kisara Girl. "Falling leaves" brush in 60-Years logo came with Photoshop.

Opens a world of possibilities, that incident.

Fact: Yukari is totally not sorry.

Also, watching marisa run to reimu when she has problems is funny.

Marisa might just be running because she doesn't want to fight Alice.

Also, one day those two will figure out how to arrange a two-woman orgy. I know it.

You manage to make one of the sweetest MariAli ever. Kinda bored of seeing tsundere Alice, so it's great watching an Alice that can actually be silly and giggle at Marisa.
Marisa freaking out is great, especially her running and screaming.

@ E-mouse: we can only hope

@Dan-heron: I know, right? I persist in having had it up to here with stories in which, without a trace of irony on the author's part: "Alice doesn't know how to handle her feelings for Marisa, so she mis-handles them and acts hostile," or "Alice doesn't know how to express her feelings for Marisa, so she utterly fails to do so in any meaningful way," or "Alice outright says 'It's not like [I like/I'm doing it for] you' with semi-optional 'or anything!' to Marisa" (though that last one tends not to be done with much seriousness), or "Alice manages to get herself across to Marisa, who doesn't reciprocate/Alice and/or her efforts/interests are entirely ignored." Not to mention that, beyond that last one, it's a tossup whether Marisa will even recognize it or feel the same way about her ... Mind you, not many of them are that bad about being so formulaic; also, the one or two doujins I've seen where it was the other way around were, um, mildly interesting I guess, in an "I still don't like this" kind of way.

I made a conscious decision to establish a definite "Yes, they're in a relationship and clearly love each other!" right from comics 2 and 3 as a reaction against precisely this kind of embuggerance — most of it from KirbyM's site, which fell into the last formula, and I still kind of feel like the efforts at going away from that sort of thing were pretty awkward (i.e. the "Just kidding!" thing in "How Parsee Stole Christmas").

LOLS! she copies herself herself XD I thought Marisa would act differently but that fits too hahah.

...Unless Marisa was riding the flower thing AND wearing that ridiculous outfit...

Dizzy H. Muffin

A very good point, Echo!

Hmm ... I should get a screenshot of it and pester KirbyM to add it to create.swf as PC-98 Marisa's item ...

So you finally finished the comments 'stem, eh?

Anyways, since Keine mentioned it's a full moon in the comic, why didn't you dim the brightness to make it seem like night?

Dizzy H. Muffin

Ummm ... she can voluntarily turn into a were-hakutaku when there's a full moon in the daytime! Yeah!

Or she could just have altered the history of the were-hakutaku curse to make it so she can activate it at will.

Or maybe somebody drew a picture of full moon on a paper taped on a sign.

Heh. When I first saw that Marisa Gear Solid comic, I was going to email you saying that the character list should have Marisa a second time at the end... And now in this one, you do have the repetition in the character list! ^o^

Tewi Inonymous

A fake moon huh? That's pretty clever.

If you get that, you are awesome.

OK, the character tags for this comic just cracked me up. Good show.
