- (Sakuya pokes her head into the SDM library, where Patchouli is doing some sorta research stuff.)
Sakuya: Meiling and I are going to get ready to heaed out now.
Patchouli: All right. Enjoy your date, or what passes for one. - Sakuya: Are you teasing me for my romance or for my lack thereof?
Patchouli: Oh just go and have fun. - (Koakuma gets Patchouli a book.)
SFX: HOURS OF RESEARCH!
Koakuma: (aside) Here it is
Patchouli: (aside) Good, thank you - (Remilia pokes her head in; Koakuma has left and the books are rearranged.)
Remilia: Flan's dragging me to meet the Komeijis again.
Patchouli: I still say you ought to try to get along with them, really.
Remilia: Yeah, yeah ... - (Koakuma and Patchouli read the book.)
SFX: BOOK-READING MONTAGE! - (They straighten up.)
Patchouli: Wait a minute ...
Koakuma: Huh?
Patchouli: Who is manning the front gate? Sakuya and Meiling are gone, the Mistresses are gone ... - (The two of them fly through the SDM hallway, Patchouli holding a radio crystal.)
Patchouli: Whoever is at the front gate, please report!
Radio Crystal: Oh, nothin' much to say, it's been pretty quiet the whole time I've been here! - (They stop short. Beat panel.)
Patchouli: ..... - (Koakuma sweatdrops.)
Patchouli: What? - (Marisa is standing at the gate with a radio crystal.)
Patchouli: (via radio-crystal) W ... wh ... MARISA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE!?
Marisa: I'm guardin' the gate, duh! It's like, y'know, cuttin' out the middleman, right?
Patchouli: THAT DOESN'T EVEN *BEGIN* TO MAKE SENSE!!

So Muffin you plan on taking a break when we get to another "save point" on CSA before thinking about what to do with either story?
The saying goes, "An old poacher makes the best gamekeeper." Of course, the logic Marisa seems to be using is apparently closer to the logic Ford Prefect used to get Mr. Prosser to lie down in front of a bulldozer, but still. I'm not sure how I came up with the idea for this comic (I didn't have the title until right before I started working on it), but it was one of those things where once I'd come up with it, I couldn't not do it.
I think most of my effort was spent on just making the "opened library door" bit (this for the door and this forwhat's behind it). Or at least it felt like it at first. I don't think I spent as much effort on any of the individual panels. This whole comic went rather smoothly after that (even if the going was as generally slow as ever).
This is the kind of punchline where (this is just my personal preference as a comic-creator) I insist on restricting it to a single panel. I kinda feel like, if I don't, the punchline loses some of it's punch, yaknow?
