Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #8

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, Rumia

And so, we meet at last: my nemesis, The Dreaded Continuity. This joke will probably take seven installments to complete.

Reimu's hairstyle is completely different in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Perfect Cherry Blossom from the rest of the Windows games; I used Shizuha's hairstyle to depict it. I would have done something about her outfit (which looks successively less and less than actual miko robes with each Windows game) and Marisa's hair ribbon, but I decided it would be more trouble than it's worth.

Rumia and Marisa's dialogue in the last two panels is based on a joke from the original game which stemmed from the fact that the Japanese kanji for "cross" is the same as for the number 10.1

  1. (Closeup of Reimu (with a hairstyle resembling that of her EoSD design), grinning cattishly against a sketchy pink background.)
  2. (Reimu barges into Marisa's house, late at night. Marisa is lying in her futon.)
Reimu: Hey, Marisa! C'mon, get up!
Marisa: wstfgl ... Reimu, it's still freaking dark out.
  3. Reimu: (at Marisa's bedside) I know! And it's because there's a strange red mist blocking out the sun! This is an Incident which I as the Hakurei shrine maiden must solve! C'mon!
    Marisa: brgmlnpthmvd
  4. (They fly along outside. No scarlet mist is ever visible throughout the storyline.)
Marisa: ... and it's still 5 AM anyway, ze ...
Reimu: This'll be the perfect opportunity to try out the new official Hakurei Shrine Spell Card System!
  5. Marisa: The one which technically makes it possible for you to lose a fight with youkai?
Reimu: (annoyed) Yeah, well, I'm strong enough to beat them all up anyway!
  6. Marisa: Psh, only weirdos like you like to come out at night anyway.
Reimu: What, you can't deny the shrine looks romantic under the moonlight!
  7. (A giant black ball of darkness flies into view, startling Marisa.)
    Shadow ball: IS THAT SO!
    Marisa: Whoa!
Reimu: Ah, this must be the stage 1 boss!
  8. Shadow ball: Um, hi ... I'm Rumia ... I think I'm lost, because my power, um, blinds me as well as anyone else ...
    Marisa: Hmm ...
Reimu: Oh, I know how to deal with that kind of thing!
  9. (A spell card image of Reimu appears, and four barriers of light appear partially dispel the shadow-ball, revealling Rumia. The real Reimu has a cattish grin.)
blue Spell Card: Dream Sign 「Evil Sealing Circle」
    Marisa: Whoa!
    Rumia: Ah ...?
  10. Rumia: Hooray! Now I can fight you properly!
Marisa: I ... don't think that's how you're usually supposed to thank people, ze ...
Reimu: Nah, that's fine, we can properly test out the rest of the Spell Card system!
  11. (The shadow ball expands as Rumia releases danmaku and a ghostly spell card image of her appears.)
    Spell Card: Darkness Sign 「Demarcation」
Rumia: So, yeah! Are you the kind of people I can eat?
Marisa: Oh you can totally have *me* for dinner, ze!
Reimu: No being a lolicon, Marisa!
  12. (Reimu and Marisa start firing amulets and light-beams at Rumia; Reimu carefully dodges.)
Marisa: So, uh, why are you holding your arms out like that?
Rumia: Doesn't this look like "the saint was crucified"?
Reimu: (aside) Do the hitbox limbo!
  13. (Rumia explodes.)
Marisa: Uh ... I can't think of a good comeback that makes sense in English.
Reimu: Yes! The fact that I won clearly proves that the system works!

1For the record: Marisa's comeback translates roughly as, "Looks more to me like 'mankind started using the decimal system'" and then, after winning, goes on to accuse her of not having ten fingers.

This is proof that back then in the Muffin-verse, Marisa liked girls. Though I think Rumia was alot older than her appearence suggested (most likely 30's or more)

I sort of thought it would be a bit more obvious that, in that context, Marisa was just fooling around. (Besides, everyone's bi in Gensokyo!)

Facteur Rien

Even Rinnosuke is bi (with who? lol).
The only entity in Gensokyo who is only heterosexual is MANNOSUKE the all-mighty.

Dizzy H. Muffin

Doesn't have to be bi with anyone. I mean, I'm bi, but I'm cheerfully single.
