(Mokou is flying through the bamboo forest at night with her phoenix-wings out, getting assaulted by fairies.)
Mokou: Stupid fairies! Go away! - (Mokou escapes for a moment. A fairy with a slightly more elaborate hairstyle charges up just out of the panel ahead of her.)
Mokou: Yeesh ... what's up with the moon? And why is it making all the fairies go EX-mode? - (The fairy (which has a slightly more elaborate hairstyle) floats forward, unleashing her gigantic danmaku pattern and hitting Mokou.)
Doom-Fairy: BECAUSE ALIENS FROM THE MOOOOON!
Mokou: AUGH!
SFX: SPOOOOOOON - (Mokou falls, her wings disappearing.)
Doom-Fairy: Wow ... I got a human on my first try! And I even managed to do it without her noticing! - (Mokou regenerates and looms upward menacingl behind the fairy.)
Doom-Fairy: I'll be the talk of the Bamboo Forest for sure!

Blue Spell Card: Everlasting 「Phoenix Tail」 - Narration box: The next morning ...
(It is daytime as Mokou meets the fairy again.)
Mokou: Dang, you're pretty good for a fairy. You should hang around me when there's a full moon more often.
Fairy: Um ... kay!
Fairy SFX: doesn't remember much of last night
Narration box: And that is how the Doom-Fairy at the end of IN's Extra Stage came to be.
1Or based on screenshots or videos. I don't want to even try to recreate Imperishable Shooting or Hourai Doll ...

I don't know why "You person!" was funny to me, but it was. Maybe it was the facial expression.

I'm just recreating a spellcard in create.swf that I don't actually remember very well, Suikama :P

For some reason I find the big fairy to be espeically cute. I'm not sure why, since as far as I can tell she look about like the others. `.`
Looking at this, and thinking back to... whichever comic Mokou and Kaguya got fated togther... Seems like Mokou considers fighting someone strong enough to kill her repeatedly a good time as long as there's not a personal grudge involved.
Does it require direct exposure to the moon for fairies to go EX-mode? It could be dangerous having fairy maids at the SDM if it even happens indoors... Sakuya would probably have to use "that" every month. o.O
Also, I'm now imagining EX-Cirno. *heart*

@Morgan: It requires direct exposure, yes. Also it generally has a greater effect on "wild" fairies, and those who have an affinity for the moon or have powers related to it (i.e. Luna Child goes nuts, Star Sapphire merely becomes superpowered, Sunny Milk is largely unaffected). As for Mokou, yeah ... I wanted to put somewhere that she had more fun fighting the player characters in IN's extra than she'd had in ages (whereas her bouts with Kaguya had always left her feeling bleghy). Remilia fated them in #17, which I made after the original part of my badly-written the-whole-point-is-shipping fic Ends and Beginnings.

To be honest, I've been using ALIENS FROM THE MOOOOON and YOU PERSON.
The degree on w1n implicit in both cannot be overstated.

This is, by far, my favorite single strip of yours. You person is, then, my favorite part in it. ♥
Something just clicked in my head about the fact that fairies resurrect instantly, and so does e.g. Mokou.
Then I started to think it through: A bunch of Touhou games have a "fairy of doom" — a fairy with a considerably more powerful danmaku pattern than others, and with lots more health, as if it was a "mini-mini-boss." Or a sub-boss. They usually appear at the end of a stage, right before the boss. The one in Imperishable Night comes at the end of the Extra stage. This is that fairy's story, in an "ehh, story of my life" sort of way.
By the way, as an addendum to the previous comic regarding Old Reimu's danmaku pattern: Yes, the bullet-patterns depicted here are condensed from the way they "really are." They are also simplified — they are half-remembered1 approximations.
