Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #27

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Ruukoto, Koishi Komeiji, Rin Kaenbyou, Reimu Hakurei, Yukari Yakumo

I'm rather pleased with the title. It's a case of ... "Hmm, what shall I call it? Maybe something about how Ruukoto is underground ... Oh, I know!" (If you're wondering what she's doing in the Palace of the Earth Spirits in the first place: look again.)

Characterizing Ruukoto was somewhat difficult considering she's only appeared once, and that in the ending of an untranslated game, so I have buggerall to work with. She's kinda generic to start with, as a result, and then changes completely. (Kinda like how Mika and Midori were originally nameless expressionless NPCs, then shifted to a sort of Colon-and-Nobbes routine.)

I'm not sure exactly how I got the idea of Orin playing her Stage 5 theme on a Spanish guitar, nor exactly why I think it would be cool to have her introduce herself to a group of characters by sitting on the roof of a house in Mayohiga (the strange village where Chen makes her first appearance in Perfect Cherry Blossom) ... either way, I spent half an hour working on that guitar. Feel free to use it in your own works, though it'd be nice if you gave me credit for it. The musical notes came from here.

I used adanced diffuse-glow effects for the stained glass window. This is not the first time I thought I was seriously overdoing things just for a create.swf comic, but, eh. I'm not sure if it says more about it or me that I get the theme from the Palace of Earth Spirits in my head just looking at it ...

And it appears that the reason Ruukoto was never heard from again is option 3, "Yukari's fooling around again."1

Transcript

  1. (Ruukoto is sweeping around in the Palace of Earth Spirits; Koishi flies over. There is music in the background.)
    Koishi: Hey there, Ruukoto!
    Ruukoto: Ah, hello, Miss Koishi!
  2. (Koishi lands.)
Koishi: So, how are you holding up?
Ruukoto: Oh, I'm doing fine ... it still feels kind of weird being powered by Okuu's energies, but nothing I can't cope with.
  3. Koishi: Heh, yeah, I can understand where that's coming from -- there's always weirdness to spare with *our* pets!
Ruukoto: (sweatdrop) Aheh, yeah, I'm still wrapping my mind about the fact that they're "pets."
  4. Koishi: You think there's something odd about a hell-raven with the powers of a three-legged crow who can control nuclear fusion and belongs to a satori?
Ruukoto: You want a frank or friendly answer?
  5. (The view pans to the right, revealing that the music is being played by Orin on a Spanish guitar.)
Orin: You two jus' need to kick back and relax for a bit.
Koishi: Heh, nice playing as usual, Orin ...
Orin: Yeah, thanks, even if SA's stage 5 theme sounds better with more instruments ...
  6. (Koishi starts to fly off.)
Koishi: Well, I'll let you two keep at it.
Ruukoto: Okay, talk to you later!
    Orin: Mmm.
  7. Orin: So ... ever figure out why you ended up buried?
Ruukoto: Hm? Um, no, not really ...
  8. (Ruukoto and PC-98 Reimu at the Shrine.)
Reimu: Okay! Now get more tea from the village!
Ruukoto: Ahah ... Yes, Miss Reimu!
  9. (Ruukoto flies along above the treetops. Yukari pokes her head out of a gap.)
Ruukoto: (Thought cloud) Dang ... she's had me for all of seventeen hours and already I feel vaguely overworked ...
Yukari: (Thought cloud) Uh-oh ... the Hakurei miko has a robotic servant!? This could ruin all my nonexistant plans!
  10. (Yukari opens a gap directly into Ruukoto's path, and she flies into it.)
    Ruukoto: WAUGH!

SA Stage 5 is such a great song. I have a bad habit of just phasing out and listening to that song and not paying enough attention to the bullets and dying

Joe4evr

Yeah, that song's great. Even though I never got that far in the game, listening to dBu's arrange made it my favorite song of SA.

Incidentally Muffin, said arrange might be where you got the idea for the Spanish guitar from. (Hey, I'm just throwing suggestions out there.)

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Actually, I'm pretty sure I hadn't (and still haven't) heard that arrange ...

Joe4evr

Bleh, that's supposed to be a '>'. I fail.

ooh that one's pretty good. think I'd go with the k-wave's LAB one over that if I had to choose just one tho
