Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #134

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Sakuya Izayoi, Luna Child, Flandre Scarlet

I've had Flandre's punchline-conclusion in my notes for a while, and I just wanted to get rid of it, really. The title is the first half of a saying which finishes "... all your problems look like nails," for those of you who don't actually know.

I chose Luna Child because she's the only one of the trio who hasn't yet been shown operating solo (well, okay, the others show up at the end of that second one), and I thought the reaction in the last panel wouldn't quite fit with Star.

Transcript

  1. (Sakuya, Flandre, and Luna Child in a maid-uniform irritatedly regard a mess in a hallway, including several playing cards, a ruler, two ping-pong paddles, a bucket, a comic book, a greenish puddle, and presumably other things off-panel.)
    Sakuya: Sigh ...
Luna: (panicked) I didn't do it! It couldn't possibly me be! I was with you the whole time!
Flandre: (glancing up at Luna) Yeah, we know.
  2. (Sakuya flies off, while Flandre and Luna approach.)
Sakuya: I'll get a mop to clean that greenish spill.
Flandre: Probably fairies messing around with stuff they shouldn't ... What a pain.
Luna: (grinning maniacally) R-right! Can't trust those fairies one bit, y'know?
  3. (With Sakuya gone, Luna floats a bit lower.)
Flandre: Hmm ... I kinda want to help out Sakuya, take off some of the cleaning load ...
Luna: Huh? Are you sure? I mean, that's what *I'm* here for. Sort of. Well ... I mean ... uh, you know what I mean.
Flandre: Well, she's always working so hard for us, so ... I 'unno.
  4. Flandre: (crazy-catface with starry eyes) I wonder if my manipulation- of-destruction would let me "break" something abstract like "a mess" ...
    Luna: D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D--!
    SFX: flipping the fricking-fricky-frick out

GreatLimmick

I keep expecting Kisume to pop out of that bucket.

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

I have trained you well!

Oh yeah, also, bonus art.

kwsn

I was expecting it too!

Also, isn't that Yukari's normal face?

Cuddlefish

What, you mean Kisume doesn't pop out whenever something interesting happens near a bucket? ...Damn.

Seems like Flan's ability is like the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception with a remote control function. Is there a "point of death" on something like a "mess"?
Well, the good news is, whatever destruction Flam causes now she can always reverse later. That's a huge improvement from earlier on.

Xaltwind

*Gasp* Somebody's been cheating at cards! There's no way there could be five Ace of Diamonds in any one deck! D<
And yes, sad to say but I was *also* expecting Kisume to pop outta the bucket at some point. ^_^;;

TARDISES

Don't worry Luna. She is pretty much completely sane now, and knows what she's considering. It could work too, considering she's used it to heal.

OneMore

"Destroying abstract things"... Kinda reminds me of Tohno Shiki. He once killed vampirism inside himself.

Cuddlefish

@Xaltwind Don't be silly, those are from two decks, so there are eight of them.

@OneMore Huh, we made the same connection, didn't we? It's that whole "destroy anything" concept. According to the Type-Moon wikia article, Tohno Shiki-level eyes might not be able to kill something this abstract (unless he practically kills himself with a headache), but Ryougi Shiki-level ones would. I think.

Omegahugger

Go for it, Flan-chan! OBLITERATE!

Let's see if Kisume's really hiding in that bucket...

Bocaj

I don't see any way that this could possibly ever go wrong. Depending on her tight her conception of a mess is.

Bocaj

How tight, rather.

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

The great part about this punchline is, I can't come up with any continuation of this situation that'd be more awesome than your imagination. :3

Inkerius

Heh, Luna's panicking so much that she screwed up her speech in the first panel.

Ozimul

I know I saw Flandre try to 'clean' with her wand of destruction somewhere, once. Remilia had to intervene. Good times.

Miko Mischa

If Flandre can break an abstract concept like "mess", then she can pretty much break entropy... :P

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Hmmm.

Wolf

Ah that's pretty much the normal thought process of a "broken psycho girl" at times. Granted it looks like she is working on it in Muffin's stories though. Anyways for her to destory a mess to clean up a mean all I can say is; lol only Flan-chan would think of that as a good idea.

As for the Kisume gag well... expect the unexpected, unless the unexpected is also expected, and if that happens always go to Plan B. lol

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

@Inkerius: I didn't notice what you meant at first, but I retroactively meant to do that for the comedy value. ;)

Mettking

How does one "break" a mess? If it becomes clean again, does that mean she fixes the spot, the opposite of breaking it? What if the creator thinks it's something even more abstract, like "art"? Will she destroy it at all then? And why, oh god why, is Kisume not poping out of the bucket already!?

Cuddlefish

Idea: Flan destroys the entire concept of "mess", making it impossible for anything to be messy ever again until she destroys the destruction.
Well, it would make Sakuya's job easier, that's for sure.

DiMastine

more likely anything that makes up said mess will explode

Wolf

More like some people here have at least read some of Tsukihime it owuld seem.

Xaltwind

@Cuddlefish: Wouldn't that cause Marisa's house to explode though, considering all the junk she's got piled up in there...?

Cuddlefish

@Xaltwind It was in more danger of exploding when Marisa lived there. By now, maybe Alice made her tidy it up a bit, and even if it does explode, the happy little family is safely living elsewhere. It would be too bad for the Kirisame shop, though.

Kirin_no_Sora

...from the way Luna Child was talking, well...

Maybe "Luna Child" isn't Luna Child at all, but actually Nue in disguise... And she left a Seed of Non-Identification in said mess, meaning that Flandre is about to "break" said seed, and possibly Nue herself, by proxy...
