2009/11/06: My brain works in mysterious ways

So, here's one of the many and varied ways I'm completely freaking nuts:

  • I am extremely familiar with Touhou.
  • Touhou, as you know, has an entirely female cast (BOCTAOE).
  • I take the second fact for granted.
  • This means that I do not think about the fact that the cast is entirely female.
  • As a result, on at least three occasions, I have momentarily become confused as to which-gendered pronoun I should use to refer to a particular Touhou character. (Cirno once, Shou once, and ... I forget the third.)

Ironically, this hasn't happened with Marisa, despite the fact that I have Carroll refer to her as "dad."

well mang, it happens. Not to me, but I have heard it happens on the streets... yep...

So, one other who got called a guy... Momiji maybe? Most people tend to draw her like a tomboy or at least with very short hair. Sure it wasn't Wriggle?

Dizzy H. Muffin

It probably was Wriggle. Or possibly Yuka. I know it happened while I was reading a 4koma which had both of them in it ...

Young Demon Lord

This is understandable in Syou's case. She barely looks female. I could mistake her for just not being the manliest dude in the world. For me, it takes some serious staring (not like THAT >_>) and contemplation to convince myself that Syou's a girl.

I have a problem getting pronouns right in regular speech anyway (as well as names), so I don't bother to think about it.

And How did you think Cirno was a He?

well Miller, remember Cirno is the beloved Tomboy for a reason

Dizzy H. Muffin

I didn't think Cirno was a he. I just reached the point in a sentence where I'd have to put either "his" or "her," and hesitated uncertainly as to which one I should.

@dan-heron: Yes, I can remember,

@Kimiko Muffin: O(h)key... Well reply to my other Comment Okay.

Dizzy H. Muffin

What other comment? :o

Just Look for them. ¬_¬;

Getting snappy and irate at the site owner is a pretty dumb thing to do. :P

Dizzy H. Muffin

Just so!

I sometimes forget Ran is female. I have no idea why this is. Even after knowing the afore-mentioned 100% female rule, I still to this day will idly think of Ran as male.

This happens to me with Momiji all the freakin' time. I have invested immeasureable resources* into finding the reason why, but it continues to elude me. Also, sometimes with Wriggle, but that's more understandable.

*Assuming one cannot measure zero.
