Characters: Reimu Hakurei, Rin Satsuki, Marisa Kirisame, Sanae Kotiya, Meimu, Kanako Yasaka

東方再想天則 〜 Rethinking the Natural Law (Touhou 12.3i) begins here. With a little luck, we'll see the end of it in the next comic. The title of this one has little to do with the comic itself. And every time I accidentally forget to hide the interface before taking the screenshot, thus leaving a nice little "Untitled : Part 1" in the corner of the screen, I mutter "B'DUH!" like Marisa.

By the time you have finished reading comic #100, you will have a clear idea of exactly who Meimu is and what she's up to. Rin Satsuki, however, will only provide enough information to confuse the smeg out of you, since I will provide little in the way of exposition for her until The Right Time, since everyone involved already knows everything they want to about the situation.1

I'm going to keep using the old version of Sanae for now (and probably keep using her hairstyle). Consistency, for one thing, and because her new hair interferes with the eyebrows for eye #2. Meanwhile, um, we get Two Scenes One Dialogue (Warning, link leads to TVTropes. Muffin will not be held responsible for hours of time lost as a result of following it.But see also this disclaimer) for that part of the comic.

Panels 11-12 are my take on the stock, um, dialogue (Warning, link leads to TVTropes. Previous disclaimer appliesBut see also this disclaimer) "How do I know I can trust you?" "You don't." and how the person being questioned pretty much always turns out to have been trustworthy. I considered adding a panel explaining "just what the heck is a Stone of the Celestials, anyway?" but decided to save it for later.

And the plot thickens. Ish.

1This is me refusing to engage in As You Know (Warning, link leads to TVTropes. Muffin will not be held responsible for hours of time lost as a result of following it.But see also this disclaimer) and I will therefore have the characters speak realistically. I mean, it's okay to have a character say, "Hey, Jeff, I thought you got hurt in a car accident!" It is not okay for them to say, "Hey, Jeff! You're my buddy who I met in my sophomore year in college and then we always went to the same parties! I thought you were still in the hospital from a car accident!" This way, I can keep up the suspense until I'm ready to actually reveal it. Hey, it worked in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.

All Touhou characters are © Team Shanghai Alice and/or ZUN; create.swf is ⑨ KirbyM with help from Thefre. "Sakura petals" brush in main/4koma logo was made by Kisara Girl. "Falling leaves" brush in 60-Years logo came with Photoshop.

Young Demon Lord

First things first: OMG, my CAPTCHA was 9 + 0! (exclamation mark, not factorial) Very nice! :D

Anyway, *ahem*...silly Meimu. Just use the Sonic Screwdriver on all their spell cards and they'll all be usele-wait, wrong time-traveller story.

Panels 11-12 are my take on the stock, um, dialogue (Warning, link leads to TVTropes. Previous disclaimer applies) "How do I know I can trust you?" "You don't."

Heh...reminds me of (Star Trek '09):
"You can't escape the black hole without assistance, which we are willing to provide."
"Never! I would rather suffer the end of Romulus a thousand times! I would rather die in agony than accept assistance from you!"
"You've got it."

I know, I know, still the wrong time-traveller story...maybe I'm reminded because I've been up for 20 hours or something...I don't know....

Oh yeah, lol @ Kanako. And ♥ Sanae. Because Sanae. Because Faith is for the Transient People. Because ♥ ♥ ♥ Sanae ♥ ♥ ♥

sRc

silly Meimu, working with yourself from another point in time doesn't stack your power

and "ZUN" is an awesome sound effect for a portal, you can practically hear it just by saying it

Solais

Woah, everything starts to make LESS sense than before!

Also, could you (or can I request you to... damn I'm bad at this ><) write the dialogue of Rin for my patch? Theorin is lazy and I really like "your" Rin, even though I don't know what the hell is she talking about.

CapedLuigisYoshi

was Sanae's initial rejection of Meimu's duel proposal morally justified -merciless'd-

One comic left, and I still have no idea what the steak is going on. The way this is going, either the arc's going to spill over past #100, or the next comic is going to be 40+ panels...

Mikan

Weird that we not see Cirno on comic no. 99~

Anyway, a Paradox is a Paradox

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

@sRc: I now have the "Rex's Lair" theme from MGS stuck in my head.

@CapedLuigisYoshi: Probably the latter. :3 My original plan was for it to have 100 panels, but that would be ... um ... the wrong kind of "silly." Still prolly be big, tho ...

@Mikan: I decided that lack of Cirno was a small sacrifice to make under the circumstances. And is it a most ingenious paradox? </OBSCURE REFERENCE>

Dan-heron

for some reason, Meimu freaking out at the sight of Reimu and Sanae made my day.
So, Rin is hax-er than Yukari then?

ZeroInsanity

CAPTCHA IS SAME AS FIRST COMMENT'S
9+0
OH MAH GAWAD

...and yet still, I don't feel special.

Anyhoo:
So in the current storyline, there's 4 border manipulators in existence, right?
And then Reimu's some kind of SUPAR 1337 Human in the future. Or something.
Then for some reason, Meimu fighting those three helps the future keep in balance?
*MINDRAEP STORYLINE RAEPING MIND ARGH*
*AND YET STILL I UNDERSTAND IT COMPLETELY*

Also: You update much more and faster than most webcomics I know.
Now I don't have to wait > 9000 Hours to get an update.

Tewi Inonymous

I have figured out the plot!

Grown up meimu is fucking with loli meimu, because grown up meimu fucked up with loli meimu.

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

@Tewi Inonymous: Ah, but how do you then explain Rin Satsuki's presence? She's the one who came up with the fighting-suggetsion, after all.

Hunter 1

Tewi, Muffin: "My advice in making sense of temporal paradoxes is simple: Don't even try." -Katheryn Janeway

And really, that's the sanest piece of advice I've ever heard about time travel, outside of "No. Just no".

RozenMariku

I don't know what you mean, I can see the eyebrows for eye 2 when applied to Sanae (2).

If you still don't feel using Sanae (2) instead, then just put Sanae's hair to Sanae (2), as a suggestion.

ZeroInsanity

@Hunter 1:
This is a logical statement. But who says that time travel is impossible to comprehend, nevertheless execute?

We don't know if there are people around us who are incognito time travelers sent back to make sure the world doesn't horribly rape itself with nukes.

And what we consider the present is the present. Since the future isn't set in stone, someone could have very well altered the timeline by doing something now which affects something far in the future.

Hell, all of this could be like TMoHS, with one person recreating the world constantly without realizing they are, and no one else knows either.

And paradoxes could be solved instantly with a endless cycle of people going back through time altering the same event to make sure it goes that way after people try to screw with it.

After typing all of that (and questioning its logic and why I decided to rant like that), your quote seems to be the best option. But I just wanted to say that nothing's impossible. Not even Gensokyo.

If I'm being annoying, just say so.

sRc

to use my own favorite quote, "you're not thinking fourth dimensionally!!"

CapedLuigisYoshi

Now you guys are making me expect the characters to quote Bob and George next comic. "I hate time travel,", simple as that.

And speaking of nuke, why haven't we nuked the abberation yet? C'mon, Walfas has a Super Youkai Warhead stashed away, or we could get Utsuho's help...

...I forgot to ask earlier, what's the point of Hisou Tensoku again (in the game)?

ZeroInsanity

To the subject of nuking stuff:
[did not understand aberration until finding out definition with correct spelling no offense by the way]
Well, America's solution to everything isn't always the best path. We're talking about setting off a nuke on a sacred mountain, which is surrounded by a huge amount of other stuff. Unless the mountain is INCREDIBLY durable, or everything is immune to radiation, it's kinda a bad idea.
But yes, it would be EASY.
Utsuho seems pretty easy to convince to fire a MEGA NUKE CANNON LAZER AWESOME at ANYTHING just as long as she's properly convinced.
So it's an option.
And a SUPAR YOUKAI WARHEAD is easy enough too, but it kinda needs Yukari/Rin/Meimu/any other border manipulator who can transport something that big without effort and be able to set it off.

Once again, if I'm being annoying with my hyooge ranting, notify me.
I'll stop, go back to being simplistic, and just say
'THIS R PRETY COMIC I LIEK THIS COMIC A LOT'.
Or something along those lines.

PMiller1

I Take it That the Oldder Meimu is The 180CG's Meimu? Right?

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Yes.

PMiller1

So 180 Meimu is helping 174 Meimu with her battle with Cirno, Sanae, and Hong Meiling, And who is this "Mom" that 180 Meimu said?

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Find out in next week's exciting episode of ... Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red!

SoF

What?

No wait, what?

I'm going back to bed...

Duran

@pmiller1

So Meimu's around during 180GC, what year is it in Genokyo again in this story?

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

@Duran: 125 GC. Gensokyo Calendar starts in 1884, when the Hakurei Border went up. (PoFV, by definition, takes place in 120 GC.)

Dan-heron

I have a question. Is Rin the youkai Yukari killed in the past? I checked the stories that had happened in the past and I remembered that little part

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

You mean A Different Story of an Eastern Wonderland's Second Prologue?

Mmm ... no.

Tewi Inonymous

->ZeroInsanity

The present is not a privileged position. Thanks to relativity no point in space/time is privileged. What we consider the present doesn't exist.

ZeroInsanity

Captcha gave me two 9's this time. Huh.
Anyway, responding to Tewi:
Oh. Well, I'm no physicist, I'm an Impossibilist (read: dreamer). Whatever the hell it may be, I think it's possible in some way. Like Division by Zero=Dimensional Rift=IRL Yukari Yakumo.
So, pretty much: After whatever moment, that is always randomly decided. Right?
So if someone screwed with stuff in the past, you wouldn't know by the present because it already happened?
ARGH FACK THIS
Too many Temporal Paradox discussions this week. Had it come up in school, and WHOO BOY. HAD A BIT OF ENOUGH TO FILL MY CURIOSITY ONE WEEK. Next week 'll be cool though.

sRc

ehehehe.

then again, there are some of us that can remember things how they originally happened, even if time changes to indicate otherwise.

;)

CapedLuigisYoshi

Judging by the time being taken, I predict that the next comic will top the 35-Koma of Legend...

If it isn't, I'll still be most perplexemated.

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Yeah, that plus the computer-problems. I'm working on panel 33 as we speak. :3

CapedLuigisYoshi

Panel :3:3?

CapedLuigisYoshi

Whups, that last post was supposed to have an obligatory -brick'd- in it.
