Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #67

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Alice Margatroid, Reimu Hakurei, Sakuya Izayoi, Marisa Kirisame, Shanghai

The plotters thicken! Or not. They don't actually appear here. Story begins here. I'm starting to have a fairly good idea of where this is going ...

Assuming KirbyM doesn't start doubling up characters, it'll be another week and a half before we see updated Alice. I'm assuming she'll be more compatible with the cat-ears, and that Nekoalice will therefore look cuter than this version. Also, I briefly toyed with the idea of giving Shanghai cat-ears, but decided "nah."

Another reason they need to solve this incident quickly: I keep almost forgetting to add the cat-ears.

I was originally going to have more panels with some Plot, but I decided that either it would be unnecessary, or I could just bump it into the next comic centered on the Human Team, and that panel 9 made for a much better punch line.

Transcript

  1. (Reimu (cat-eared) and Sakuya land in the Magic Forest.)
Reimu: Marisa's living with Alice these days, so here we are.
Sakuya: Why do I have a sudden feeling of impending doom?
  2. (At the front door of Alice's house, with Alice (cat-eared) and Shanghai answering.)
Reimu: Hi, Alice! Can Marisa come out to play?
Alice: (looking annoyed) Well, uh, you can come in and see her, but ... well, you'd better come look.
  3. (Marisa (cat-eared) is rolling around on the floor, playing with her mini-hakkero.)
Alice: As you can see, she's become entirely too cat-like.
    Reimu: Uh ... that's not good ...
    Marisa: Mew!
    Sakuya: Ohhhhh dear ...
  4. (Marisa bats the mini-hakkero away.)
Alice: (turning to leave) You're welcome to try and snap her out of it, but if even *I* couldn't do it ...
    Reimu: Yeah ... let's see, uh ...
    Sakuya: Hmm ...
    Hakkero SFX: roll
  5. (Marisa scampers off after it.)
Sakuya: Reimu, I think solving this Incident just became urgent.
Reimu: I think you're right, but we should deal with Marisa first to give *ourselves* more time.
    Marisa SFX: scamper
  6. (Marisa pokes her head back into the panel.)
Sakuya: Right. How should we deal with it, though?
    Reimu: Um, well ...
  7. (Reimu turns to Marisa, whipping out a spell card, which makes Marisa alarmed. Sakuya flinches back.)
Reimu: SAME WAY WE DEAL WITH EVERYTHING ELSE IN AN INCIDENT!
    Marisa: Wha-- wait, Reimu!
    SFX: was just faking it
Blue Spell Card: Spirit Sign 「Fantasy Seal」
  8. (Exterior shot of the forest; massive explosion.)
    SFX: BOOMIES
  9. Alice: (off-panel ... or, well, maybe below-panel) OUT OF HERE UNTIL THIS INCIDENT IS RESOLVED!!

All Touhou characters are © Team Shanghai Alice and/or ZUN; create.swf is ⑨ KirbyM with help from Thefre. "Sakura petals" brush in main/4koma logo was made by Kisara Girl. "Falling leaves" brush in 60-Years logo came with Photoshop.

Ah, the classic Gensokyo method of problem-solving: "Shoot it with magic until it's not a problem any more. If it's still a problem, you're not using enough magic."

Also, Nyarisa = win.

(o.0)

How else will this mirror typical incidents? Do the two teams get six stages of mostly unassociated victims? Will the scoring system be based on a catness rating, like the Faith / Communication / Cherry Border systems from the earlier games?

List of Victims: Marisa, Alice, Flandre, Reimu, Koishi

Assuming that Satori are enlightened humans, each of these are human, or ex-human. Just thought I'd note that for theorycrafters.

Digara

Er... Flandre was never human...

*nitpicks!*

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Er ... no. "Satori" as in "enlightenment" (悟り) and "Satori" as in "three-eyed monster that reads minds" (覚) don't even use the same characters. And I have to say that Koishi at least is anything but enlightened. So Koishi was totally never a human.

It's not exactly clear what Remilia and Flandre's actual origins are, though ...

When all you have is a ying-yang orb...

I kind of want to see neko-Shanghai now. `.`

I'm also kind of amused by "Can Marisa come out to play?" Kind of says something about Reimu's attitude towards incidents...

Banzatou

When I read the 6th and 7th panel, my mind pulled up a "Pinky and the Brain" episode~ ¬_¬"

In any case, hope to see the next one soon!

KirbyM

"Assuming KirbyM doesn't start doubling up characters, it'll be another week and a half before we see updated Alice."

Coincidentally, I'm probably going to do some weekday-updates to create.swf either today, Friday, or some time next week. Because I have a week off from my summer computer science course for college (and since the class is three days a week, it's more like 11 days off) and will probably have a hard time coming up with ideas for daily flashes. So yeah, updated Alice may come sooner than you think.

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Yay!

Sai Youcho

That's the cutest Mari I've ever seen! ^^
I really love this comic. =D

One of the best things out there.

SecksyTaco

I'm surprised Alice wasn't snuggling her new kitty when they walked in~

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Alice would probably rather be snuggled. And Marisa's too-catlike-ness was probably becoming more annoying for her than anything else.

Dan-Heron

Muffin, you're too awesome for mundane words. I'm happy to see Sakuya is finally learning proper incident solving procedures; maybe she'll get another chance to be playable character in the future

Marisa's antics never cease to amuse me, and you always find ways to make them even funnier. "Ready to pounce" was just priceless... right before getting blasted XD

Spirit Tsunami

Hmm...so apparently it doesn't affect everyone simultaneously, seeing as how Alice was in the first comic of "Catness" and was still normal. Granted, having her already affected then would ruin the punchline, but...
