Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #6

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, Keine Kamishirasawa, Mima

At long last, the explanation for the discrepancy between the characters' appearances between their PC-98 incarnations and the Windows games: Reimu blew up one of Tenshi's rocks! ... or ... not quite.

I was originally going to try to fit in PC-98 Alice, and an explanation of why she appeared two games later with a completely new character design (and why Yuka Kazami appeared four games later with no change in character design), but I decided just to go for the joke. Yeah, I know, Keine's only supposed to transform into her hakutaku-form when it's a full moon. Rule of Funny. (Warning, link leads to TVTropes. Muffin will not be held responsible for hours of time lost as a result of following it.But see also this disclaimer)

I would have come up with a silly spell card name for Reimu's "bomb" there, like maybe Asplode Sign 「Not Paying Attention」, but spell cards weren't invented until Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (the first Windows game).

Oh, KirbyM added ghost-"feet". I updated Mima with that on 29 March 2009.

Transcript

  1. (Keine, wandering around in a forest.)
Keine: (thought cloud) Hmmm ... hakutaku senses tingling ... something isn't quite right here.
  2. (She goes to see Reimu at the Shrine.)
Reimu: Oh, hi, Keine, what's up?
Keine: There's something going on that I think I should talk to you about ...
  3. (Inside the Shrine.)
Keine: See, I've been noticing some ... cracks in Gensokyo's history. Bits that don't fit together right, like something smashed into it. I'm wondering if there might be some sort of youkai with powers like mine causing trouble ...
    Reimu: Gensokyo's history? Hmm ... actually ...
  4. Keine: Oh? Do you know what it might be?
Reimu: Yeah ... in our final fight with Mima ...
  5. (The End of Gensokyo. The PC-98 versions of Reimu and Marisa face off against Mima. Marisa has a look of immense silliness on her face. There is a Stone of the Celestials in front of Mima (not to be confused with one of Tenshi's earthquake-keystones).)
Reimu: Give it up, Mima! You're no match for both of us working together!
Marisa: I am angsty that I must fight my former master!
Mima: Oh, d'you think so? Do you know what this stone artifact is?
  6. Reimu: (pointing her gohei at Mima) It's your new source of power! If I destroy it ...
Marisa: Or ... mistress! ... That didn't come out right ...
Mima: Heh heh heh ... if you *destroy* it!? You *are* clueless!
  7. (Closeup of Mima and the Stone.)
Mima: This is a Stone of the Celestials! It will bring me nearly unlimited power! And if you destroy it, the energy unleashed could shatter the very history of Gensokyo itself! Finally, I shall have my revenge, and conquer the Hakurei Shrine with its power!
  8. (By this point, Reimu has covered the Stone in explosive paper seals.)
    Marisa: I ams sorries, Mima-sama!
Mima: And th--Augh! What!? No wait! Stop it!
    SFX: BOMB
  9. (The stone unleashes a huge blast of energy which covers the whole panel.)
    SFX: KABLOOIE
  10. (Reimu recounts this with an even sillier expression on her face.)
Reimu: And when I woke up, Mima was gone, and Marisa and I looked like we do now.
    Keine: (sweatdrop) .....
  11. (EX-Keine chases Reimu out of the panel.)

All Touhou characters are © Team Shanghai Alice and/or ZUN; create.swf is ⑨ KirbyM with help from Thefre. "Sakura petals" brush in main/4koma logo was made by Kisara Girl. "Falling leaves" brush in 60-Years logo came with Photoshop.
