Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #24

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Marisa Kirisame, Koishi Komeiji, Alice Margatroid, Kanako Yasaka

Personally, I'll take my chances with the more trigger-happy god.

I got the image-PHP system to have the possibility of a customizable title-header. Furthermore, I've made a shiny new logo for use in all the other regular comics! (Considering this is a create.swf comic, putting so much work into Photoshop is really overthinking things.) For my next trick, I'll make it so you can customize which logo the comic has yourself ...

Oh, in case you hadn't noticed, this is a Metal Gear Solid parody. (I even made a Game Over theme out of the Touhou death-SFX and the "mission failed" music from Metal Gear Solid 2!) In panel 6, Marisa is quoting Metal Gear Awesome. Maybe Yukari showed the internet to them or something ... she showed Suika a TV.

Incidentally, I can't be the only one who's noticed with that font, the D in "FAILED" looks identical to an O. "MISSION FAILEO"?

Today's comic is also an extrapolation of the ending to Subterranean Animism's extra stage when playing as Marisa and Alice, which closes with the following:

Later, Kanako caught Marisa going through their house.
She got put through the wringer. The End.

KirbyM also added Marisa's Subterranean Animism character design relatively recently, so as of 12 March 2009, I have updated this comic by replacing Marisa with that version.

  1. (Marisa (in her SA getup), flanked by four dolls. Koishi is flying off.)
Koishi: Well, that danmaku fight was fun! This'll probably be worth some talk back home ...
Marisa: Heh ... yeah, Koishi, that was a pretty Extra-Boss fight there, ze ...
  2. Marisa: Well, that was a nice warmup, but Kanako ain't here. Guess I'd better be off, then!
Alice: (via dolls) What? Don't tell me you're done here ...
SFX: remote communication via dolls enchanted by Yukari
  3. Marisa: Eh, Reimu'll handle it. Besides, I just found out that the shrine's totally empty! It'll be a great time to try out that Codec-thingy Nitori made!
    Alice: (via dolls) I ... see ...
  4. Narration box: And so ...
(A cardboard box, sneaking through the Moriya Shrine.)
    SFX: Breebeep breebeep!
  5. (Codec-screen, Alice on the left and Marisa on the right. The little level-thing goes from 0 to OMG, the text at the top says AYA, and there are switches like MEM and ZUN. The frequency is "9001.42".)
    Marisa: Whoa, nifty!
Alice: Hmm ... I guess this thing actually works, then ... so ...
  6. (Marisa leans out of her screen overenthusiastically, and Alice shrinks back, blushing.)
Alice: Ghk! ... no more Newgrounds for you, Marisa ...
footnote: *This takes place before the comic's main storyline
  7. Alice: (still blushing) So, uh ... are you sure you know what you're doing here?
Marisa: Alice, it's me! I can sneak through here like anyone! I'll be back before ya know it.
Alice: I wonder about that ...
  8. (Kanako comes across the box.)
Kanako: Hmm? What's this ridiculously oversized cardboard box doing here?
    Marisa: (thought cloud) !
    SFX: staying still
  9. (Kanako wanders off.)
Kanako: Ah, well ... I'll bug Sanae about leaving her stuff around later.
    Marisa: (thought cloud) Whew ...
  10. (Marisa slips out from under the cardboard box, smirking cattishly.)
  11. (She starts sneaking away.)
    SFX: tiptoe
  12. (Kanako comes up behind her, an exclamation mark above her head, and an "ALERT!" box appears. Marisa freezes in place.)
    SFX: vweet!
  13. Marisa: Oh, uh ... Hi, Kanako! How's it going? Aheh heh heh ...
  14. (A giant Kanako looms over Marisa against a sketchy pink background. The "ALERT!" box is still there.)
Kanako: Marisa ... do you know what's worse than having a god pissed off at you who is short-tempered, has no sense of humor, and is trigger-happy about smiting?
    Marisa: Uh ... no, what?
Kanako: Having a god pissed off at you who is *not* short-tempered, has a rather developed sense of humor, and *doesn't kill people.*
  15. (Codec screen as before, with a frantic Alice on the left and static on the right.)
Alice: Marisa, what's going on there?
Caption: MISSION FAILEO (the D looks like an O)
Caption: She got put through the wringer. The end.

All Touhou characters are © Team Shanghai Alice and/or ZUN; create.swf is ⑨ KirbyM with help from Thefre. "Sakura petals" brush in main/4koma logo was made by Kisara Girl. "Falling leaves" brush in 60-Years logo came with Photoshop.
