Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #13

Characters: Remilia Scarlet, Reimu Hakurei, Sakuya Izayoi, Marisa Kirisame, Shinki, Yumeko

Story begins here.

You seriously shouldn't be reading this if you want awesome action sequences.

Another effect of starting the EoSD sequence with number 8 is that stage 6 landed on comic 13, which is an interesting number for the occult in general, and thus fairly apropos for a vampire.

The stage 6 theme in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is called "The Young Descendent of Tepes," since Remilia has canonically claimed to be this. Of course, as of the events of EoSD, Remilia Scarlet is 500 years old, so she's not particularly young. She was born in 1503; Vlad III the Impaler (Vlad Tepes1 in his native tongue), also known as Dracula, lived from 1431 to 1476. I suppose you can be considered someone's "descendant" if you're their granddaughter or great-granddaughter — there's just enough time for about three-ish generations between Vlad hitting adulthood and Remilia's birth. It's only academic, anyway, since this claim is canonically a lie. Which means that the title of the stage 6 theme is wrong in every respect.

I was considering referencing Sikieiki in panel 8 (I'm just sort of assuming I don't need to explain the joke, but just in case ...), but I decided that "the judge of the dead" is too awesome for Shinki's purposes.

Transcript

  1. (Reimu and Marisa follow Sakuya through a darker part of the SDM.)
Sakuya: Fine, then ... the Mistress is this way.
Reimu: Guess we're about to meet the last boss, then!
  2. (Sakuya alone.)
    Sakuya: Miss Remilia?
  3. (Remilia floats down from above.)
    Remilia: What is it, Sakuya?
Sakuya: Er, the Hakurei Shrine Maiden and her witch are here to see you. About the mist.
Marisa: (off-panel) Whaddaya mean "*her* witch!?"
  4. (Everyone's in the panel now, Remilia still hovering.)
Remilia: Ahhh, yes. You may return to the cleaning then, Sakuya.
    Sakuya: Yes, Mistress.
    Reimu: Hey, wait ... you're a ...
  5. (Sakuya flies off.)
Remilia: Yes, I am a vampire! And I am UNSTOPPABOOBLE!!
Marisa: Uh, even with the 69,105 different weaknesses you've got? Pickled vegetables, sunlight, water ...
Reimu: Uh, it's garlic, not pickled stuff.
  6. Reimu: But anyway, we want you to stop this red mist you've been causing!
Remilia: (cheerful) Don't wanna! I want both the night *and* the day!
  7. (Reimu takes off and Marisa summons her broom.)
    SFX: APPEAR!
Reimu: Then we're going to beat you!
Remilia: Foolish human! I command fate itself! I can take on both of you a hundred times over!
  8. Reimu: I don't think so!
Marisa: We put the beatdown on the *god* of Makai in the Mystic Square incident, ze! A loli vampire's no problem!
    Remilia: "A loli vampire"? Hah!
  9. (Cut to Shinki and Yumeko.)
Shinki: Yeah, about that ... the series went from the final boss being "god of the Demon Realm" to "bat-winged brat." What's next, a hungry ghost? A drunken loli? A space-nurse? A ripoff of Kaguya-Hime?
    Yumeko: Uh-oh ... Uh, Shinki-sama ...
  10. (Cut back to the SDM, where Remilia is launching danmaku.)
Remilia: I am also descended from the great Vlad Tepes Dracula!(footnote: lie) You are no match for me! etc. etc.
    Reimu: Marisa?
Marisa: Yeah, I noticed it, too. She called us "foolish humans," which means she's *doomed.*
    Caption: TO BE CONCLUDED ...
  11. (Reimu slaps an amulet on Remilia's forehead.)
    Reimu: Yoink!
    Remilia: YEEEARGHLEBLARGLE
    Caption: ... RIGHT NOW

I wonder about how Shinki woould have ''described'' Kanako, Tenshi, Utsuho or Shikieiki ?

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

The problem is that Sikieiki and Kanako are actually interesting. Utsuho, too ("with the power of the sun" always makes things sound snazzy), though this is offset by the fact that she's a nineball. Tenshi would have "brat" in her descriptioin ...

ganbaru

''Brat'' or ''Spoiled brat'' could work for Tenshi, but there's a other way of seeing thing with Utsuho, she could be seen as the '' pet of a stage 4 boss'' no ?

Facteur Rien

Yeah, about that. Good luck to find a bad way to talk about Youchrist.

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

How about let's not. ;)

CapedLuigisYoshi

I still don't get something here. What's Yumeko concerned about?

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

She is drawing Shinki's attention to the fact that that is exactly what the subsequent bosses are going to be :P

CapedLuigisYoshi

I get that, but why be looking off-panel concerned? It's not like the four are approaching Shinki angrily...

No. I know they probably could be due to Rule of Funny, but if that were the case, wouldn't you have actually shown them aproaching angrily?

See the Gilligan Cut and Ironic Echo Cut entries at TV Tropes. And anyways, I think they're implied to be watching affairs from a distance.

Like, through a, through a, crystal ball, or something. Nyah.
