Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #126

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Komachi Onozuka, Kisume, Shikieiki Yamaxanadu, Insane Clown Posse

This is the last "see things in black and white" gag, I swear! Originally, I was going to drag it out longer (and have it alternate between black and white as she zoomed in more and more or whatever), but I was starting to feel tired, and I felt that it would draw the punchline out too long with no, uh, punch at the end. I suppose Kisume's line in the last panel, which is my favorite part of the comic, would've worked best, but OH WELL.

I was originally going to introduce Kisume's "bucket-teleportation" here, but couldn't fit it in. Komachi must've been playing reverse-whack-a-mole (Whackisume?) for a while there.

I'd also toyed with the idea of having the color-caption in the last panel be a completely different color, like "SAFFRON!" or something, but that would just be silly.

Also, Blue And Orange Morality (Warning, link leads to TVTropes. Muffin will not be held responsible for hours of time lost as a result of following it.But see also this disclaimer).

Transcript

  1. (Komachi is confronting Kisume by the side of the Sanzu River. There are a couple of other buckets lying around.)
    Komachi: Quit whacking me!!
Kisume: Whee, the spirits have and/or have not spoken!!
  2. (Komachi charges forward at Kisume; her bucket falls empty, and she pops out of one of the other buckets.)
    Komachi: RARG!
    SFX: ZIP
Shikieiki: (leaning in from off-panel) Komachi, why have you not -- oh.
    Kisume: Too slow!
    SFX: DOOP!
  3. Narration Box: One too-awesome-to-depict fight scene later ...
(Kisume's forehead is bandaged, and one of the buckets is upended. Shikieiki approaches Kisume with her Rod of Remorse, while Komachi hovers behind them.)
Shiki: And how's *your* Karma? Let's have a look!
Kisume: Search me, boss, but there's nobody here but us chickens! Crazy chickens, even!
Spell Card: 「Power To See Things In Black And White」
  4. (The coloration is mauve. Green "Insane Clown Posse" faces are hovering behind Kisume. The karma-meter is the wrong color and has fallen against the side of the panel, and the arrow is pointing the wrong way.)
    SFX: MAUVE!
Kisume: Karma? I 'ardly know 'ah!
Shikieiki: ... oh, you're pleading insanity.

All Touhou characters are © Team Shanghai Alice and/or ZUN; create.swf is ⑨ KirbyM with help from Thefre. "Sakura petals" brush in main/4koma logo was made by Kisara Girl. "Falling leaves" brush in 60-Years logo came with Photoshop.

Oh, Kisume, Kisume, Kisume. :P Never change.

AJS

Great going, Kisume, you ruined Shikieiki's black-and-white vision. Nice job breaking it, hero.

John Evans

That is an excellent "I hardly know her" joke. Well done!

Wolf

So I'm guessing Kisume is either rather hard to read, or she's protected my some kind of insanity barrier here.

Also, nice work as always.

Pata

I think the idea is that insane people can't really be judged by morality.

Bocaj

Huh. Mauve. Thats got be like opening the fruit drawer and finding a stapler.

Also, I now want to see Gamzee and Kisume hang out.

Miko Mischa

I always love how Muffin characterizes Kisume. So amusing... :3

manonthe3up

Wow, Kisume is an amazing troll, what with the Insane Clown Posse behind the mauve aura and all.

Copycat Zero

Yeah, you're right: Kisume's responses in the third and fourth panels would probably have worked better switched. But, as you said, oh well.

Romanoff Kaiser NEX Blitzer

Kisume transcends Eiki's morality to mauve.

Aya Syameimeru [GNN]

Well, that's how you take out the judge I guess.

Dan-heron

... ok, I laughed harder than I probably should have at the last panel. Pretty damn funny man. Loved it!

And Whackisume, sounds like a hit!

CapedLuigisYoshi

Just noticed the Insane Clown Posse.

IDE/Theory: Gamzee is Muffin's favorite troll (and possibly favorite Homestuck character).

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Nah, I just wanted to involve "some notation of insanity," and the meme which is currently infecting my brain is "fucken magnets how do they work." Homestuck had nothing to do with it. :P

KFChicken

Search danbooru: kimiko_muffin
Result: Nobody here but us chickens !
....
....
..Ok. Sorry about this one...

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

Hah. I'd be flattered, but no. Create.swf stuff would get UNAPPROVED-IN-THREE DAYS'd into oblivion.

Joe4evr

@Muffin: Not so, there's a walfas tag for anything that's made using (or references) create.swf (there's even one fanart that came from Pixiv that had Kaguya and Mokou fighting over the Twuck).

Anyway, I wanted to say something about the comic, but I forgot.

Any Muffin comic with Kisume is made instantly better by her inclusion. By logical extension, this is instantly one of the best Muffin comics of all time.

Except that of course, logic coming in contact with Kisume would probably cause something catastrophically weird to happen, like Gensokyo becoming real and reality becoming fictional. Let's not go there.

Vythcaex

Well, if we want to get philosophical, Gensokyo is semireal as a fictional construct. Or it could really be real and life is indeed the fiction. Or life could not exist and everything is the mad, fitful sleep of dead gods. Or a small child.

TheBlueJelly

Really, if we're speaking of the physical possibility of a Gensokyo-like plane's existence, you should note how *flawlessly* you can mesh Touhou with pretty much any other series, and all inconsistencies (if any actually arise (note: they probably won't)) can be explained by a stock phrase ("DAMMIT YUKARI", if you didn't know- this is why you should always have a reality warper on your payroll). Throw in the fact that by definition, magic doesn't follow muggle-reality's rules (and thus cannot be disproved by them), and suddenly, POOF! Gensokyo fits into reality quite well.

Stick that into your SAN role and smoke it!
That, and isn't Reality Unrealistic?

Vythcaex

If my SAN was above zero, I wouldn't be learning quantum mechanics and philosophy.

Arcc

If my SAN roll was above zero, I'd be sane. Have you *seen* sane people? It's terrifying. They spend 3/4 of their life waiting for their next paycheck or death, whichever comes first. No thank ye.
