Touhou Nekokayou: Scarlet Weather Archive in Japanese Red #120

First Previous Random Next Latest

Characters: Reisen Udongein Inaba, Fujiwara no Mokou, Watatsuki no Yorihime, Watatsuki no Toyohime, Reisen II, Eirin Yagokoro, Kaguya Houraisan

This was originally going to be just a 4Koma that was all about Reisen's punchline and started with the "they're all leaving" scene. Then I remembered Mokou, who I quickly realized would be a source of immense fun, given my understanding of Lunarian attitudes towards ... um ... everything.

This isn't exactly an attempt at being similar to Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth; speaking of which, I'm not entirely sure why I don't particularly mind most of what goes on there when muffin haet buttmonkeys. I guess it has something to do with the fact that Reisen also has an only sane man (Warning, link leads to TVTropes. Muffin will not be held responsible for hours of time lost as a result of following it.But see also this disclaimer) attitude.

I shamelessly admit to reusing previous stuff. But it was cute!

Also I totally didn't notice the pun in the title until a little while after I'd come up with it.

Transcript

  1. (Reisen and Mokou, in Eientei.)
Reisen: So, the Watatsuki sisters will be leaving soon.
    Mokou: Frickin' *finally*.
  2. Reisen: Yeah, your attitude to them has been mutually ... strained, hasn't it?
Mokou: Nah, we just hate each other.
  3. Mokou: (her expression softening) I gotta ask, were they ... like this when you lived with 'em?
Reisen: Um, I dunno ... they never really met Earthlings when I was with them, and there was nothing like your relationship with Kaguya ...
  4. (Reisen II approaches.)
Mokou: Yeah, I guess Kaguya's the only Lunarian girl who's fallen in love with another girl (and a Terran one at that) instead of hooking up just for kids or politics ...
Reisen II: Hey, um, Reisen, my mistresses are about to leave Earth ...
Reisen: Oh, all right, Reisen ...
  5. (Reisen, Kaguya, and Eirin stand outside Eientei, seeing off Yorihime, Toyohime, and Reisen II. All are smiling except the two Reisens.)
Eirin: Well, overall, today was quite enjoyable for the most part.
Toyohime: Oh, I'm sure you'll find no disagreement from any of us.
  6. (Closeup of Toyohime and Eirin.)
Toyohime: (whisper) And you're sure there's no way to convince Kaguya to drop this ridiculous ... um ...?
Eirin: No. In fact, she's expressly forbidden me to try.
    Toyohime: Damn.
  7. (Back to the wide-view. The Watatsuki sisters are still smiling, but look somewhat strained.)
Kaguya: I hope you hurry back and visit again sometime!
Yorihime: (sweatdrop) Aheh, er, that's certainly ... likely!
  8. Narration box: Later ...
(Mokou is resting with her head in Kaguya's lap.)
Mokou: Man am I glad to be back right here.
Kaguya: Hee ... sorry about that, Moekko ...
    Mokou: Nah, 'sokay.
  9. (Reisen arrives.)
Reisen: It *does* mostly feel like a relief when their vists these days *end* ...
Kaguya: Hee, don't be like that, Reisen! And that other Reisen was nice.
  10. Mokou: Speakin' of which, what do *you* feel about 'er? I mean ... you don't feel kinda ... replaced?
Reisen: Hm? Well ... I guess I can honestly say that a part of me feels like ... mm ...
  11. Reisen: ... "better her than me."
    Kaguya SFX: giggle
    Mokou: ... Oh.

I wonder if its homosexuality or Mokou specifically they have a problem with. If I recall, the Hourai Elixer was used to mock test humans to see how they'd react to being offered immortality. The fact that Mokou sought out and drank an elixir must unfavorably color their impression of her. That and they're horribly prejudiced against anything not from the Moon.

Anyway, mentioning the Inaba comic reminded me of the bit where Reisen II: Electric Boogaloo declares that she's Reisen's rival for the Watatsuki's affections. I don't think Reisen was too interested in competing.

Reisen: Well... we'll be going now Reisen.

Reisen: See you Reisen.

Reisen: Good seeing you too Reisen.

Reisen: Thanks Reisen!

Mokou: >_<

Thing is with the elixir test, they usually killed off the person and take it back before the immortality seeker could take it.

As far as the sisters and earthlings? Lunarians aren't typically fond of Earthlings. Though I think with Mokou, the feelings are rather mutual (Dislikes most Lunarians)

But I get the impression that Reisen has that sort of opinion in canon, "Better her than me"

Facteur Rien

Watatsuki are really not sympathic.
Scorning earthlings, and now poking their noses in Gensokyo's affairs.
Let's kill them once and for all.

zekana

To Bocaj, I get the feeling they hate that Kaguya is with anyone other then a Noble of the moon. There is power in connecting families and to them, she's wasting that power. Also when you consider the fact that Mokou is human as well, it adds insult to injury for them and probably their egos. Just my guess though.

Following up on what zekana said, there's that and the fact that, in entering a relationship with another girl, she's less than likely to have a child to continue the Houraisan lineage (which she'd be unable to do anyway, as was addressed in a previous comic, though whether they'd know or care is up in the air.)
On that note, I wonder if they'd have any reaction to Marisa and Alice having a child born out of a homosexual relationship?

Dizzy H. Slightly Voided

"Psh, who cares what those puny impure Earthlings do?"
